Welcome to the Glider Infantry!

A team of Living Historians dedicated to the memory of the men who served in the U.S Glider infantry of WWII, specifically, “C” Company, 1/401st G.I.R., 101st Airborne Division.

Our Mission:

We are a group of WWII reenactors from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois dedicated to teaching the public about the 1/401st GIR of the 101st Airborne Division. As living historians, we study the men we portray through library research, veteran interviews, and to the extent possible, our experiences. We share and practice the results of this research to the public at living history and tactical reenactments throughout the year.

Training is provided

Although we have many veterans in our ranks, prior service is not a requirement.

Year-round action

The war was fought without breaks for the weather. We average one event per month, year round.

Variety of experiences

Public displays, public battle reenactments, parades, private tactical events, dedicated training events spread over 12 months.

High degree of authenticity

This goes beyond uniforms and equipment. Who’s you favorite ball player? What music do you dance to? Favorite Movie Star? How’s your G.I. slang? Who’s pinup is in your footlocker?

Earned, not given

If you want to wear those Glider Wings, you need to invest the time and effort, and be judged Ready by your Squad mates.

Opportunities for involvement and leadership

It may begin as a casual hobby for you, but there are opportunities to lead in or out of uniform in the Rifle Squad, Headquarters, or other elected positions
