Enlist Today!

Interested in Living History? Learn what it was like in a Rifle Company in WWII? Want to join the 401st? We’re always looking for quality additions to the unit. Here’s what you’ll need to know:

  1. We are a member unit of the World War Two Historical Reenactment Society (HRS for short) To join 401 you join HRS. HRS rules and Regs apply. (Link at bottom of post). Your cost is $20/year.
  2. There is no age restriction to becoming a member. There are age restrictions for what you can do as a member:
  • Under 16, age-appropriate impressions; no battles
  • 16-17, may participate in battles with notarized permission and parent/guardian attendance
  • 18+ unrestricted participation

3. We have a brief manual describing what you will need to acquire to participate. Read first, then question away: https://www.facebook.com/…/permalink/10158497298460429/ While costs vary, budget over $1000 to get basic uniforms and equipment. Weapon is in addition to that.

4. Don’t panic, you don’t need to buy everything right away. We have loaner gear to help out until you have what you need. Ask first, buy second.

5. No prior military or reenacting experience is required. We have a fully documented training program to get you walking, talking, and fighting like a 1944 G.I. All you need to do is put in your best effort.

6. We do events about once a month, mostly in Illinois and Wisconsin, but occasionally travel as far as Ohio or Pennsylvania. We want people who will be at as many events as possible. With more troops we can do more and better things.

7. This is a great hobby which let’s you experience things in person that others only read or see on a screen, you’ll meet fascinating people and make good friends. Join us and experience history first hand.

8. I you’ve read this far, congratulations. If you’ve also read the recruit manual, we’re ready for your questions.
